-Cadet Competition-

Davila's Obstacle Course

Greetings, friends and family of my cadets. Today members of the 1st Cadet Training Group participated in an obstacle course that I was fortunate enough to coordinate. As the Cadet Commander I rarely have the chance to interact with the basic cadets on a small unit level. Although, the parachute drop demonstration was cancelled, I was afforded the opportunity to develop and execute an obstacle course competition. The course opens with a mental puzzle involving a child's toy and a 2x4. After unlocking the code the cadet's were required to alternate between the low crawl and the high crawl, along a 15 meter stretch. Once navigating the simulated barbed wire, the participates sprinted to the parallel triceps bar  and proceeded to traverse the obstacle using only their hands and arms. Finally, The cadets slithered between two sets of parallel bars spaced one foot apart and finished with five consecutive, acceptable sit-us. Bravo Flight finished with the best time of 10 minutes 41 seconds.

Emergency Services

Continuing on with yesterday's classes, cadet's were presented with the task of  quickly organizing, performing, and simulating a real life mission.  Combining team work, leadership, and emergency services knowledge cadets were able to successfully simulate a real life mission.  However, this is a competition and in the end Delta flight proved to be the most successful.

Volleyball

Flights participated in a tournament style volleyball competition today; for the opportunity to declare themselves winners.  The first match was Bravo flight (Squadron 1) and Charlie flight (Squadron 2).  From there, Delta flight (Squadron 2) and Alpha Flight (Squadron 1) played a close match, but in the end Alpha Flight was the victor.  Soon after, Advanced Training Flight faced off with their sister flight Echo Flight (Squadron 3); but on the end Echo Flight was the undeniable victor. As time passed, there was a continuous rotation of flights playing game after game until only two were left.  However, Alpha flight proved themselves to be ‘Champions’.

Aerospace

As part of the cadet program cadets are continuously presented with aerospace knowledge.  Hence, as part of today's competition cadets were confronted with the task of transforming a simple piece of paper into 'aero-dynamic' pieces of paper.  They then 'flew' their aero-dynamic airplanes against each other to determine whose was better crafted.  In the end, Echo flight proved themselves superior with a average distance of18 feet.

Leadership

Today some of the cadets did exercises that focused on teamwork. Some of the exercises were the human knot and line push-ups. The human knot is where all the cadets grabbed hands and tried to untangle themselves. They attempted to perform the task talking and once not talking. It proved to take longer to get untangled when they were able to talk. The line push-ups is where a whole flight (roughly 16 cadets) would lie down on their stomach’s and put their feet on the persons shoulder behind them. They started by laying down and when their flight sergeant calls “UP!” they attempt to do a push-up all together. Echo flight won the team building exercise, but all the cadet’s did well.
