New Composite Squadron in Fitzgerald - GA-455
Vice Commander, Lt.Col. Richard Greenwood of the Civil Air Patrol, Georgia Wing, will be presenting the Official Charter for the newly-constituted Fitzgerald Squadron of CAP to the Fitzgerald Mayor Gerald H. Thompson. The ceremony will take place at the airport Tuesday evening, November 17, 2009. The Charter is issued by Civil Air Patrol national headquarters and creates a squadron which is then an official part of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, according to Maj. Jim Flaviani, Commander of Group IV, CAP. The new squadron, designated SER-GA-455, will be a part of Group IV and will be a Composite Squadron, meaning it will have cadets and senior members. CAP 1Lt. Michael Arena will serve as the units first Squadron Commander. There are approximately 1,650 members of CAP in Georgia. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 90 lives in fiscal year 2008. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.

GA-082 Visits Robins AFB Museum of Aviation
On 7 November, 2009, GA082 Squadron under the command of 1Lt. Tyler Phillips, travelled to Warner Robins, GA to participate in a scavenger hunt at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation. Members worked in small teams and were given a list of questions pertaining to aviation history which they set out to answer. Squadron members viewed many aircraft up close, learned about Air Force history and saw details of different aircraft and missile systems. The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins is a major Air Force Heritage, Exhibit and Education Center in the Southeast. The exhibits tell stories and provide information on aviation beginning from WWII to the present. Located on a 51-acre site on Robins Air Force Base, the museum is the second largest museum in the U.S. Air Force with a collection of over 100 aircraft, missiles and cockpits dating from a replica of an early 1896 glider to modern-era aircraft such as the B-1B bomber, the SR-71 Blackbird, the U-2 Dragon Lady and F-15 Eagle. In the gift shop on the bottom floor, a Civil Air Patrol plane hangs from the ceiling depicting the important role of the Civil Air Patrol in USAF history. Since it opened to the public in November 1984, more than 9.7 million people from all over the world have visited the Museum, including more than 758,000 children who have participated in Museum education programs. The RAFB Museum of Aviation has the honor of being the fourth most visited Department of Defense museum in the United States.

Civil Air Patrol Officials Visit Irwin Co. Schools
Major Jim Flaviani, Commander of Group 4, Georgia Wing, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), and Capt. Tom Owens, Wing Director of Aerospace Education, were invited to present the organization's Cadet Program and Aerospace Education Program to the students and faculty of Irwin County High School and Irwin County Middle School recently.

Students were given a briefing and shown a presentation about the CAP Cadet Program and cadet activities, and also learned about the different aerospace education projects that they can participate in through CAP membership.

The school visits were in preparation for a Civil Air Patrol Open House/Membership meeting to be held at the Fitzgerald Municipal Airport on September 19, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be activities for visitors, a static display of CAP aircraft and cadet members will be on hand to answer questions about the program.

Group 4 and Group 1 Have Successful Mission
Members from Group 1 and Group 4 embarked on a mission, Friday evening, May 29, 2009, which resulted in a find for all the members of the aircrew and ground team. With assistance from an aircrew from Group 1, a ground team from Group 4 was able to accurately locate an ELT which had been accidentally activited.

CFCA Cadet Squadron, SER-GA-808 participates in a Memorial Day service honoring those that served and gave their life while serving in the Arm Forces. Members from the squadron were joined by Lt Col Mike Coates (Retired USAF) and Col James Keels (USAF), Assistant Director of Plans and Programs, HQ AFRC as the squadron color guard presented the colors for the pledge of allegiance and the playing of the National Anthem and a flag detail then presented the American Flag to the audience in a flag folding ceremony during a Memorial Day Sunday Service at Central Fellowship Baptist Church.
