SQUADRON NEWS

The Gwinnett Composite Squadron held a promotion and award ceremony at its headquarters on Saturday, 30 August 2008.  Deborah Schmid, Tom Schmid and Patrick Zarnik were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, the highest rank achievable without a special appointment, such as Wing Commander. 

In addition to the senior promotions, two cadets also achieved milestones that were honored as part of this ceremony.  Cadet Joshua Stultz was awarded the Billy Mitchell Award and was promoted to Cadet Second Lieutenant.  Cadet Robert Lyday was awarded the Amelia Earhart Award and was promoted to Cadet Captain.

Finally, Gwinnett Composite Squadron Commander Maj. Jim Weed was awarded the Commander's Commendation Award for outstanding service.  Lt. Col. Zarnik was also recognized for ten years of service.

These awards and promotions were conferred with the help of Georgia Wing Commander Col. Jay Hughes, Group 2 Commander, Lt. Col. Wayne Roshaven, and special guest Maj. Gen. Eugene Harwell, a former CAP National Commander.
