1. Somewhere on this web site are links to two extra photo's and an audio clip, which are also on this site. See if you can find them. I am interested to see if the sound clip works on anybody else's machine (of course you need a sound card) I know the experts will jump on the source code, but that takes the fun out of the hunt. Anyway if you find the stuff let me know by e-mail.. I think you will recognize the significance of the pictures when you see them.
2. There didn't seem to be any place to put these pictures, so I stuck them here.
An overall view of the new Sidney Lanier Bridge at Brunswick.
The old bridge can be see behind it. About the center of the photo
the lift span
on the old bridge can be seen. Just to the left of the lift span is
where a freighter
hit the bridge about 1972. It knocked out two spans and many cars and
trucks
fell into the water. Several people were killed. The new bridge will
have the
longest span in the state and help to prevent another incident.
A closer view, from the other side.
One of the two cable support towers can be seen under construction.
Also a better view of the old lift span. The road bed of the
new bridge will be higher than the top of the old lift towers
3. For those that might be interested, here are a couple of photo's taken about one week after the bridge was hit. We were still in the salvage/recovery mode.
